Halloween is the time of year when it’s very easy to get cavities. With the huge amount of candy suddenly in our diets, it’s hard to say no to the sweets.
However, our team here at Irish Road Dental in Davison, Michigan wants to help you avoid getting any Halloween-caused cavities. With that in mind, let’s look at some helpful tips for avoiding them.
After you have finished enjoying a sweet treat, you should vigorously rinse your mouth with water. Then, you can gently brush your teeth with a soft-bristled toothbrush and abrasive toothpaste 30 minutes later. This will clean away residual candy bits from the contours of your teeth.
Flossing your teeth can also be a great benefit. After flossing, you could then rinse your mouth with antiseptic mouthwash to kill some of the lingering bacteria in your mouth.
Of course, all of these measures are in addition to your daily brushing and flossing efforts.
Dr. David Ewing stands by these recommendations, and they’ll certainly help you in all of your efforts to counteract any sort of Halloween-caused cavities. Bear in mind, however, that you do need to also be vigilant about your candy intake, as that will have a major effect on how much work you have to do to avoid cavities.
